Today I want to talk to you about two significant issues faced by transgender people in Australia, homelessness and suicide. I have been affected by both. I have been homeless multiple times and last year I lost one of my friends, a trans woman, to suicide.
I was left alone, I had no family, I was homeless, I had no money, I was trying to maintain full time uni and I was also questioning my gender. This resulted in me couch surfing, sleeping in the local park, seeking refuge in abandoned properties and at one point, I spent the night in the tunnel of Central station.
